Brooklyn Master Plan and Parks & Recreation Plan
Brooklyn, Michigan

The Village of Brooklyn sits in the heart of the Irish Hills area, which is home to several parks, lakes, and the Michigan International Speedway. The Village conducted a two-pronged planning effort to update the Village’s Master Plan and to create its first Parks & Recreation Plan. The community outreach for these projects informed both plans and included a survey and an open house, both garnering extensive and valuable feedback from residents.

The Parks & Recreation Plan outlines steps for the Village to respond to resident feedback and enhance its park facilities. The Implementation Plan details seven goals with associated objectives, informed by community engagement results and data analysis, and culminates with an action plan organized by park facility. The action plan identifies priority levels and connects each action item to at least one of the seven goals.

The Master Plan highlights the existing conditions in the Village of Brooklyn, incorporates community engagement results throughout the document, and concludes with the future land use map and implementation plan. The Village has several sites that are prime for redevelopment –the Plan identifies these 12 sites, and each site has a description, a table with key site features, and the community’s vision for the site. The plan makes it clear to potential developers what is available in Brooklyn and what the Village is looking for in terms of future development.
