Like many northern Michigan communities, Acme Township has experienced significant growth and development in recent decades. Limited with an archaic and out-of-date Zoning Ordinance, the Township retained Beckett & Raeder, Inc. to draft a new Zoning Ordinance as a regulatory tool to implement the strategies prescribed in the Master Plan.

The restructured ordinance expanded the compatible uses allowed in each district, allowed more uses by right, streamlined the site plan review process, permitted more diverse housing options, updated definitions, and added design standards. The final product is a graphic and user-friendly document with common language in place of legalese, standards organized in tabular form for easy understanding, illustrations that help explain regulations, and hyperlinks throughout the document for easy navigation.
