Rogers City Trail System
The City of Rogers City retained Beckett & Raeder, Inc. to facilitate
the planning process for the Rogers City Park Linkage Plan and Coastal
Zone Management Update. The project, partially funded by a Coastal
Zone Management Grant, identified the appropriate character and
type of activity to support and enhance the recreation demand in
Rogers City. It builds on Rogers City’s greatest assets: The unspoiled
Lake Huron Shoreline and significant natural resources, beautiful
lakefront parks and conservation areas, a successful municipal marina,
and active downtown. The main objective of the plan was to improve
non-motorized access to Lake Huron and to recommend a route and
methods to link all of the city’s lakefront parks.
The project includes the construction of four miles of continuous,
barrier-free path to connect to major public parks along the Lake
Huron Shoreline. The path parallels the shoreline for approximately
3.5 miles. Except for a few short connections along city streets,
the path can be accommodated along its own right-of-way separating
it from vehicles. The path traverses several parks including Lakeside
Park, North Shore Park, South Shore Park, Seagull Point and the
400 acre Herman Vogler conservation area.
