Allen Park Beatrice Avenue Collective Parking Lot

Prior to the Allen Park Downtown Development Authority’s involvement, Beatrice Avenue was a residential street with an intersection onto North Allen Road, a Wayne County primary road. Residents complained that motorists were using Beatrice Avenue as a means to bypass the Southfield Road / Allen Road intersection. Further, due to lot size restrictions, several of the businesses in the vicinity of Beatrice Avenue were prohibited from expanding their operations. The Allen Park DDA, in collaboration with Beckett & Raeder, Inc., developed a plan to close Beatrice Avenue at Allen Road and consolidate all the private parking facilities into a collective parking lot. The businesses involved in the project included Voran’s Funeral Home, Dunleavy’s Pub, Ram’s Horn Restaurant, Total Gas Station, Mama Mia’s Restaurant and S&G Imports.

The project linked all the properties together with a parking lot incorporating parking lot lighting, pedestrian walkways, pedestrian lighting fixtures, landscaping, screened trash receptacles, and uniform identification signage at entrances. The Beatrice Avenue neighborhood was screened from the parking lot by a concrete screen wall and internal landscaping.
