Muskegon Lakeshore Trail
2000 Michigan Parks
& Recreation Honor Award
The Muskegon Lakeshore Trail is part of a comprehensive plan adopted
by the City of Muskegon to develop a linked trail system over twenty-three
miles.
The premier component of the trail system is the design and construction
of an elevated coastal dune boardwalk along the coastal dune complex
of Lake Michigan.
Beckett & Raeder, Inc. was commissioned by the City of Muskegon
to prepare the design, construction drawings and specification,
and perform the construction administration for this project. Also
included in the project was the preparation and approval of a coastal
dune permit through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
This project was funded by local appropriations as well as matching
funds from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Land Trust
Program and the Michigan Department of Commerce Equity Grant Program.
