Marquette Community Master Plan
The City of Marquette Community Master Plan is different from other
Master Plans due to the restricted budget involved and the primary
goal of establishing the Master Plan as a process within the City
as opposed to a static planning effort.
Marquette is a community of approximately 25,000 residents and
is the largest community in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Unique characteristics
of Marquette include difficult topography, extensive shoreline features,
and regional prominence. These difficult issues must be addressed
in adaptive ways throughout the Master Planning Process.
In addition to addressing traditional Master Plan elements such
as demographics, infrastructure needs and housing issues, the plan
proposes a series of "Areas of Concern". These areas are crucial
planning needs to the City and are set out in a fashion by which
they can be addressed through specific planning efforts as funding
becomes available. The Master Plan is the coordinating tool for
these areas. The prioritization of these areas was determined through
public workshops and analysis of existing information.
All final mapping was made available on AutoCad Release 14 in order
to ease the updating of the plan and to ensure its existence as
a dynamic document for planning endeavors in Marquette.
